MAKEOVER MASSACHUSETTS TO MAGNIFICENCE

The news that Massachusetts is rated 49^th in the nation in job creation over the past six years comes as no surprise especially to the thousands of highly trained workers who have left the New Bedford area and the state. Only the elite in the greater Boston area have seen job creation and income increases. The “boutique economy” of Boston is only for the well-educated and highly skilled residents of the city. For over 20 years infrastructure repairs to the rest of the state have gone begging while 16 Billion has been spent on the Boston ’s leaky BIG DIG.

Governor Deval Patrick’s plan for our worsening economy is a “let them eat cake” solution to create three highly regulated “Resort Style” Casinos. These Casinos feed on the poor worker’s hope for an economic windfall but will do nothing for the shrinking state and shrinking jobs. Of course the casinos will fatten the state treasury at the expense of the poor. Government like Cancer, loves to grow.

Dartmouth’s answer to the Massachusetts decline and growing town budget is to punish business with a split tax rate. To makeover Massachusetts to its former magnificence is to unshackle businesses from high taxes and excessive regulation. No need for casinos or tax increases when common sense and self control will stop our decade of decline. Cites and towns must learn to live within their means by deciding which of our expenses are necessary and which are merely desirable.

In this state, that has been controlled by “tax and spend” politicians for too long, there is a growing dissatisfaction with our inability to compete in this huge great American economy. Placing more taxes on businesses is not the solution. There are problems in Massachusetts and we can fix them. We start by changing the balance of power in the State House.
